John
and I met in 1981 at SmithKline Instruments (SKI) where he held the position of
International Marketing Manager for Chemistry Products. My position as
Quality Control Manager required frequent interactions with Marketing and
Manufacturing to insure that customers could depend on a steady supply of high
quality chemistry reagents for their laboratories.
The
early work relationship with John was based on mutual respect for the training
and discipline that each of us, as part of a team, brought to the
business. John always demonstrated a high degree of commitment and
excitement about the diagnostic products he was responsible for. His
boundless energy is his signature and was evident to everyone that interacted
with him.
We
had the good fortune to meet again in 2008 when John was appointed Group CEO
for Calpro AS, and invited me to join the team to manage the quality and
regulatory activities of this Norwegian company. From the very
start of our renewed relationship, I was reminded of John’s excellent
